Indianapolis 500 Official Program (annually 1911-present; Indianapolis Motor Speedway) – over the long history of the race, the front cover of the official program has referenced several different race names.  For the first three years, 1911-1913, the programs did not reference the name of the race on the front cover.  Beginning in 1914 and for several years thereafter, the program referenced the International Sweepstakes.  Exceptions were in 1919 when the program referenced the Liberty Sweep Stakes, and in 1920 no race name was referenced on the front cover.  The reference to International disappeared for a couple of years in the early 1930s and disappeared for good by 1946.  By 1938, the program cover no longer referenced Sweepstakes as part of the race name.  From 1946 through the mid-1950s, the program simply referred to the 500 Mile Race.  In the mid-1950s through 1976, the cover shortened it to simply The 500.  Beginning in 1977 to the present, the front program cover references The Indianapolis 500.  In most years, the race anniversary is also referenced – e.g., the 30th 500 Mile Race or 65th Indianapolis 500.
