Bits and Pieces
Member Henry Medler wrote to say that he has a poster, distributed by Valvoline, that depicts 30 Years at Indy, A.J. Foyt, 1987. Henry said that since Foyt qualified for 35 straight races he was wondering if anyone had or knew of a poster that exclaims 35 years for Foyt? He would like to have one. He may be contacted at 815-427-6548.
Belmont Publishing has again printed a calendar that shows off some works by famous photographer Francis “Bud” Williams. The black-and-white photos are absolutely great.
Member Paul Powell informed us of a web site that has information about Art Pollard. It has been 30 years since Art died in a practice crash at the Speedway. On the web look at http://artpollard.tripod.com/
I recently received news of a new hardbound book by Bob Gates, Pat Sullivan
and Ed Watson. Dirt Road to a Silver Crown, The Illustrated History of
the USAC Silver Crown Division.
This 9 1/4” x 8 1/4” 312 page volume contains 852 photos and stories covering
the 27 seasons of USAC Champ Car or Silver Crown racing since the beautiful dirt
cars were removed from the Championship trail in 1971. All 196 races and 402
drivers are chronicled. The photo journalism is by John Mahoney. The $55.00
price covers postage in the U.S. You may order or get more information from

Club Items Available
Our Founder, John Blazier, sent me a bag of old pins or badges from
the NI500CC that he had left over from the early years of the club. For several
years the club had hat/lapel pins made each year with the club’s checkered flag
logo and the current year printed on them and they were distributed to members.
John has sent me the remaining inventory. The pins that are available are from
the first three years of the club’s existence 1986, 1987 and 1988.
We also have available the cloth patches that the club had made in the
first few years. These colorful iron-on patches are 1-3/4” x 3” and also
have the club’s crossed checkered flag logo.
If you would be interested in having one or more of the patches, let me
know and I will include it in your envelope with the Spring Short Chute.
Limit three.
If you would like to have one or more of the pins, send $1.00 (limit three)
to cover postage and shipping and I will send them right away.
