Member Spotlight
Randy is a devoted Indy 500 memorabilia collector. He began
collecting Indy 500 material in 1956 when his father took him to his
first Indy 500 race. He saved every trinket and piece of literature
he bought at the track. After about five years, he realized he had
the beginnings of a collection and he has been saving and seeking 500
memorabilia ever since.
Randy's collection is quite extensive. He has complete sets of
Clymer and Hungness Yearbooks, USAC Yearbooks, Speed Age Magazine,
Auto Racing Magazine and Auto Racing Memories and Memorabilia Magazine.
Other items include Indy programs back to 1914 (missing some from 1915
to 1930) , Indy tickets from 1926 (missing 7 from 1928 to 1941), over
200 - 8 x 10 photographs, 91 - 6 x 9 postcards, over 60 hardcover books
and hundreds of newspapers related to Indy. He also has many items
dating back to the thirties from other tracks besides Indy.
Randy admits he has a bad habit of trading unusual items that don't
fit into his scheme of collecting. He does, however, have some sort of
a pin he can't identify. A copy is attached to this newsletter and he
would appreciate any help you might be able to give him.
Collectors always have facinating stories about how they acquired
some of their items. Randy tells how in the early sixties he desparately
wanted to complete his Clymer Yearbook set. He was missing the 1952 and
1958 issues. He wrote Floyd Clymer personally and to his surprise
