- American Automobile Association (AAA) Armbands -
1909-1955

*Please note: In order
to preserve the picture clarity of these credentials, this page may take a while to
load. Please be patient.
The majority of known American Automobile Association (AAA) armbands from 1909-1955 are made
of felt which may suffer damage from moths as seen in the 1941 below. The 1937 and 1938 white AAA's
below are made of a thin celluloid type material with an elastic band to secure on ones arm. To
distinguish the Speedway from other tracks that the AAA sanctioned, the "500" was sewn onto
all* AAA armbands used at the Speedway.
We have no pictures of AAA armbands from the Speedway for the following years: 1909-1936 & 1939.
If you have any, please email us (ni500cc@ni500cc.com or dar500@indy.rr.com) a color scan so it can be
posted here on the site.

Note that the armband at right is felt and does not have "500" on it. It is uncertain if this
was used at the Speedway or at another AAA sanctioned track.

Because of the fragile nature of felt armbands, many did not survive making most of them very rare, very tough to find and very desirable. AAA armbands from after WWII do become easier to find, but are by no means easy to find.
